Welcome to Saxopolis – Orastie – Broos – Szászváros!

TransylvaniaDreaming No. 1 – a regionalist-cultural-historic-touristic-holistic (small scale) event organised in Geoagiu/Algyogy, Hunedoara/Hunyad county, close to Orastie, somewhere between Alba Iulia and Deva at the feet of the ‘Metaliferi’ mountainrange.

Below some pics from Orastie, a former Transylvanian Saxon town that has been reshaped during the last decades into an urban space of engineered Dacian and Roman collective “memory”. Still, it’s a place where epochs, construction styles, ethnic and religious memories, identities, ideologies and histories form a sweet-sour provincial Transylvanian salad bowl definitely worth visiting and exploring!

A historic but neglected train station, “twin” churches, a synagogue, old, secession style school buildings, statues and sculptures in public space, industrial heritage (i.e. a ‘vintage’ mill, still working), shops so typical for small towns, a nightclub like neighborhood bar, former socialist derelict factories and a military theme park – these are only a few highlights of Orastie – all concentrated in a really small area.
